Exercise 0- Meredith Reed

This .gif exemplifies the accessibility of information and the interdisciplinary applications of art. The dancer's movements are slowed down for viewers to understand the kinesthetics of her dance while incorporating the art of dance through ballet.

Exercise 0 - Rico Lumanlan

I chose this particular gif because for one I find it extremely simple but it also says a lot about how our own perception of reality.  It is almost impossible to distinguish which of the scenes is the reflection and which is the original. This made me think of how we can often fool ourselves due to our limited perception, which seems to be a major flaw. However, our limited physical perception opens up other doors to exploration and expression of a different degree, such as the creation and open interpretation of art.

First, I found this gif hilarious. Also, I saw that a lot of gifs often about current events, such as The Grammy's and video game culture. Combining the two subjects creates a humorous sequence, which gifs are often meant to be. If the two images were presented separately, there would be no joke.

Exercise 0 - Panpan Deng

Reason: This .GIF shows one of the ways to finish the game Snake which I personally find very hard to win. Actually, I did not think there is a way to end the game before I found this .GIF last year. I do not know whether this .GIF is actually a recording from a player or a program but it indeed make the viewer think it's live. Another interesting thing about this .GIF is that I believe 90% people will want to finish watching the game after it starts.

Reason:  This .GIF makes one of the most famous paintings the Starry Night from Vincent van Gogh seems like shaking! While the viewers can appreciate the painting in a new way, they can also receive a sense of 3D effect. (At least for me)

Exercise 0 - Frank Hu

The robot featured above was manufactured by Boston Dynamics, a Startup company that specializes in advanced robotics. Google recently purchased this company along with several other acquisitions in the artificial intelligence and robotic space. As the major provider of online search, Google has billions of dollars in reserve and has many complaints of monopoly filed against it. What purposes could they have with AI and advanced robotics, who knows. Should we be concerned? Perhaps.

This GIF captures the unsettling foreboding feeling very well. The machine stands upright in a very defiant posture, its hands spread open and "eyes" tilted upward. The stance is both majestic and threatening, eerily similar to a human but also distinctively different in its construction. The color and size of the floor as well as the removal of the background serve to reinforce this idea. It, the robot, is in total command and not dwarfed by its surroundings.

Reason: This GIF creates an illusion of a never-ending sequence. It shows that by having subsequent images that are put together in a right timeline, a GIF can deceive a human's sense. The illusion created also makes the GIF look both trippy and appealing.

Reason: I love this sequence of light created by this GIF. The lights look more artistic and creates a more powerful effect when put into the GIF format. Like the first GIF, this one also contains sequential images that link to each other in order to create an endless pattern.
