Final Critique - Lauren Owensby - Rosetta Stone Explorer

Here is the link to my interactive video project: http://in.fm/v/MxYEDz

Documentation video and photos soon to come.

Artist Statement:

Rosetta Stone Explorer is an interactive video that presents the user with choices they are familiar with and choices they are unfamiliar with. The focus of this project is the impact large brands have on language.

The primary components of the piece are the Interlude.fm platform, Apple's television advertisements, and advertisements from various other brands including Samsung and LG. I used Adobe Premiere to re-brand the non-Apple advertisements into a fictitious "Orange" brand, which is based on the Nadsat slang used in a Clockwork Orange, purposely choosing a less professional aesthetic to make the editing evident and expose the fictional nature of the brand. Through choosing which product to view, the viewer becomes accustomed to the naming trends, even though the Orange ads are in Russian.
