Exercise 0: Lauren Arnold

I chose this GIF because it deals with the idea of speed, control, and artistry. The dancer flips his legs around slowly with an abundance of control and then swoops the legs in an abrupt motion to around his body and up again. I feel that this GIF is entirely important in that the movement is essential, without it not one second of the imagery would suffice. To see his entire body and agility move each second, we are reminded of those three themes of speed; control; and artistry over and over again.

I also love that the GIF itself is situated like it is right in eye level with the dancer himself. If it would have been shot from above or way beneath him, the photograph would have become distorted. This was something that both the dancer and videographer probably agreed on. They must make sure that the two artists are at equal height or else the dance itself could have been lost or even the artistry in the filming could also have been. Without the one great angle and footage, you do not have the other and vise versa. This is a piece that can portray a lot in just a repetitive three second moving image.
